"Glory on High"

Shabby Chic Christmas
is the new challenge at FSC this fortnight.

Meaning - Shabby Chic is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of were and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique...basically distress it, and make it look old and worn...

So, with this in mind
I wanted to create a piece that had an old and worn look to it
and with an angelic sereneness to it...
My 'ode to Michelangelo!

My first decision was the colours...pink and grey.
Then for the background I've used paper from Meg's Garden
called "The Romantic Garden."
It has been inked and stenciled (using gesso) and stamped on.
I have used some old cardboard with corrugation in it, from my stash...
and just taken some of the top layer off and gesso-ed it
and used it as my backdrop for the main piece.

The main image is from a Stampendous stamp from the set
"Excelsis Deo" which I had seen on Joanna's blog and I just couldn't resist getting it.
And stamped it onto tissue paper.

Tip: heat set it so that it doesn't bleed out.

This was then adhered to layers of toilet paper, that were dampened
and pressed together to form a kind of hand-made paper.
Some more stenciling around it to make the angel stand out more.
To shabby it up some more, I rubbed away layers of paper from around the angel
with my fingers...I love the aged effect that this created.

A sentiment from the stamp set, some holly and heaps of gesso
finished the piece off.
I didn't really want to add too many embellishments
as I wanted the angel to stand out and be the first thing you rest your eyes on.
I think the ageing of her makes you linger and just soak up her glory
(but then, that might be just my imagination - what are your thoughts?)

The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on this theme.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

I would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you and extend my
appreciation to those of you who follow my blog!!!
You are awesome!
Your comments absolutely blow me away.

Enjoy!

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges ~
